Strength is life:b.k.shivani brahmakumaris

Strength is life…

The world adores strength; we adore strength. A batsman pelting consecutive sixers in a game of cricket is applauded with great excitement and cheer. A weak player is usually ridiculed and regarded as a misfit for the tournament. This is how the world is; strength and energy attract universal acclaim. As inhabitants of this universe, we should remember this and strengthen ourselves in every way. Wisdom lies in strengthening ourselves, exploiting every single opportunity that we come across, until our body and mind hold intact. Yes, that is true strength – a sound and strong body and mind! A strong body with a weak mind or a weak body with a strong mind will not help us realize our true potential. Strength is felicity while weakness is constant strain and misery.

Please take note that being strong doesn’t give us the power or right to belittle our weak siblings.

The purpose of developing our inner and outer strength should be to hold hands with our weak brethren and facilitate them to become a stronger individual. For this, we must not only develop our intellectual and ethical powers but also the strength of our soul. Reflect on the words of Swami Vivekananda “What we want is muscles of iron and nerves of steel, inside which dwells a mind of the same material as that of which the thunderbolt is made.”

Once upon a time in Colorado while driving to school, a lady and her 9-year old son were caught in a furious storm that raged with all its might. Pathetic road conditions led the car into a skid and the vehicle spun out of control, rolling several times before landing turtle in a ditch. Although their life was protected by the seat belts, the mother lost her consciousness due to a severe blow on her head. And while the vehicle was soon getting filled with water, her son gathered courage, crawled out through the window, and slowly dragged his mother out of the car safely up to the embankment to the road. Later when his mother regained consciousness she faintly remembered that as she was being dragged out of danger, she heard her son murmuring to himself “I can do it, I can do it.”

Every day hundreds of incidents like this are bound to happen and would challenge our faith in our own ability. Let us believe that no matter how inscrutable life may be the strength needed to overcome hardships, is right within us! In each one of us there exists, a divine force which is beyond death and decomposition. The forces needed to sustain life and face challenges with a pinch of salt are strength, guidance and faith!
