didnt they give you an acknowledgement copy with the inward number? dont you have the stamped acknowlegement copy with you from the police station, if you dont, then file an RTI applicaiton for the same, even then, if you dont get it if they dont find it, then it is lost by the police station, and you dont have any proof that you have given them any letter, as simple as that.......

Giving a complaint and not getting acknowledgment/ DD entry done is equivalent to not giving a complaint.
