For property owners, buyers or sellers in Mumbai, the CTS number, also called the City Title Survey Number, needs to be obtained. It is a vital numerical identity for any property during the property registration process as well as payment of Stamp Duty.
Through society share certificate you become co-owner of the land collectively. That is to say that, you have undivided share of land owned by society. If conveyance deed is not done, then it is a different story.
So this city survey office thing is not required. First ensure that conveyance is done and you have share certificates from the society, that should be sufficient.

City survey extract contains the map of the site giving its dimensions and Survey or CTS numbers of the site and the neighboring land abutting the site for which application is made. This can be had from the City survey office of the Corporation or the Municipality in whose jurisdiction the land is situated.

Please note that you cannot get City survey for the flat which is a part of the building on the land.
