Will a minor typo in an affidavit cause any issues?

(Querist) 13 June 2017 This query is : Resolved
One of my friends recently changed her name by undergoing a legal process. But lately she noticed a small typing mistake in the affidavit that she had used for changing her name after it was notarized. In one of the contexts, her son's name was supposed to be mentioned in the affidavit as her name in his birth certificate had to be referred. While making this reference in her name change affidavit her son's name was mentioned as “Prakash, K.” instead of “Prakash K.”

Will this typo in the affidavit cause any issues? Should it be corrected? If so, what is the procedure?

Cancel previous affidavit or supplement it, if previous affidavit is not used.

Minor typo can be corrected under authentication by signature of the deponent at the place of correction.

The affidavit has been used once for giving ad in the newspaper for change of name. Now, can she go back to the notary again and modify this minor mistake in the same affidavit?

In that case the nature of ad may have to be checked and rectification to be considered in a suitable manner.
Srinivas H (Querist) 14 June 2017
The ad was just to announce the change of name of the candidate. It did not had any mention of the name "Prakash, K."

No need to go again to notary, provided any copy or copies of the affidavit have not already been attached with any other document or circulated in any manner.

Thanks for the reply Sir, you mean to say that it is a simple typographical error and hence doesn't need to be corrected?
Guest (Expert) 14 June 2017
You are welcome.
Srinivas H (Querist) 14 June 2017
So, can this affidavit be used as it is without making the correction for the simple typographical error?

Mr. Srinivas,

I don't know why you are stretching the issue too far. In your initial query, you wanted to know, "Should it be corrected? If so, what is the procedure?"

Your query was responded accordingly with the solution.

But now you have asked, "can this affidavit be used as it is without making the correction for the simple typographical error?"

So, at first, you should decide whether you want to correct the affidavit or want to use with the existing typographical error. Only then decide yourself what to do, as you have been guided sufficiently.

To be frank, I feel as if you don't have any such problem, but have put only an academic query to seek answer to your classroom exercise, as only in academic queries supplementary questions are continued to be put by the student up till he gets the desired answer to the main academic question!

If you want you can sworn supplementary affidavit, however, this affidavit would serve the purpose.
