Maternity law - reg

(Querist) 23 May 2017 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir or Madam,
I want to know about maternity leave rules for contract employees working in autonomous institutions in the state of Andhra Pradesh. I am working as a senior resident doctor on contract basis in an autonomous institution (deemed university). The contract period is for six months and is renewable. I have been working in this institute for more than a year. I am carrying a baby (first baby) and want to avail the benefit of maternity leave. When I have enquired in my office, they told me that I will be provided only a three month maternity leave and the leave period will not be paid. In my earlier workplace, the institute was providing six months paid maternity leave. It is also an autonomous institution.

I want to know about what is my right for the maternity benefit? And what does the G.O. says about the maternity benefits? It would be very helpful if you could share the information for the awareness of employees.

Thank you very much in advance.

Avoid persons and entities loitering at online portals like LCI posing as some Super Special Chief Lawyers and shamelessly advertising firms as some Law Firms to allure unsuspecting querits.................that are actually not Lawyer or Law firms.

There are unlimited number of threads at LCI initiated by querists that have been fleeced.

Mr. Rajendar K Goyal has advised well.

The stand of the management seems to be strange.

I have been working in this institute for more than a year. I am carrying a baby (first baby) and want to avail the benefit of maternity leave.

Maternity leave sanctioned before conceiving and after birth of baby. From the query it looks it may be Child Care leave. You may clarify.
If Maternity leave irrespective of category of employees, they are eligible for 6 months. You may check for benefits available for contract employees of State
Govt. as in autonomous bodies they will not implement those rules by default. Your Head of Admn. or Director will be able to clarify to you orally and if not satisfied resort to RTI apart from approaching Grievance Officer if any is designated.
