Bank lost my property documents

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 05 December 2009 This query is : Resolved
I had taken housing loan from the bank. I have now fully repaid the housing loan. However, bank has informed me that my original property documents are misplaced/lost by them.
Bank has told me that they will re-create the documents. Please advise what are the things which I should ensure that all the legal formalities are properly completed by the bank. What is the procedure for obtaining the fresh documents which can now be used as legal ownership documents in place of lost documents.

Thanks
Mahesh

All original title documents deposited by you with the bank cannot be re-created as original one but their certified attested copies can be obtained from the office of concerned registrar with the certification of the bank officials with their seal and stamp. The bank shall have to bear the expenses for getting the duplicate copies of the lost documents.

Dear Mr Raj Kumar,

I was still following up with the bank for original property documents. However, now they have finally confirmed that my original porperty documents are lost.

If I file case against the bank for compensation, how much amount do you feel should I claim from the bank as compensation. How much compensation court can really award ?

Thanks and Regards,
