There are no such provisions that every litigant is required to engage a lawyer to plead his case. Lawyers are engaged to help the Court for their experience and knoweledge of procedures. If some one is aware of the procedures and feel competent to plead his case he can do so, even if he is not a lawyer.

A lawyer therefore can well plead his own case and it is not necessary for him to engage another lawyer provided he is sufficiently experienced in the branch of law he is attempting to plead the case, otherwise it could bounce.

He can also appear on behalf of his family members but he shall be required to submit Vakalatnama from such family members.
