Regarding-gratuity

dear experts,
I have decided leave my present employer (public limited company) my DOJ was 02.05.2011 and had a training period of 3 month and probation period of 3 months, got conformation as on 01.11.2011,weather i am eligible for gratuity. The company is saying that they will pay gratuity only upon the completion of 5 year from the training period. Is there any possibility as per gratuity rules for me to get gratuity... How can I convince my company for getting me the gratuity?
Kindly suggest/help me in this matter…

You have posted that;

Is it said/stated in writing?
You were in training period as what; Trainee under management's standing orders or as Apprentice under Apprenticeship Act or just a trainee by designation?
You have not posted which Gratuity rules are applicable e.g; Payment of Gratuity Act,1972?
