Section : Short title, extent and commencement.

THE ANCIENT MONUMENTS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND REMAINS ACT, 1958 ACT NO. 24 OF 1958 1* [28th August, 1958.] An Act to provide for the preservation of ancient and historical monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance, for the regulation of archaeological excavations and for the protection of sculptures, carvings and other like objects. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Ninth Year of the Republic ofIndia as follows:- 1.Short title, extent and commencemnt. (1)This Act may be called the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. (2) 2 [It extends to the whole of India.] (3) It shall come into force on such date:3 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
