5-Years-Old Tells Court: Mummy Said Papa Burnt Her 14 Jan 2009, 0438 hrs IST, Kumod Verma , TNN PATNA: Five-year-old Ishita Singh never asked her parents the meaning of death. Nor was she told. The LKG student learned about the grim reality the most horrifying way - witnessing her father setting afire her mother. Ishita's mother Shiboo Singh, 28, died on August 21 last year after her husband Manish Singh allegedly set her on fire at their residence at Maurya Vihar on the city outskirts. A Central intelligence employee, Manish is now absconding, police said and added his anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the court of additional district judge on January 7. A sobbing Ishita, in her statement to Patna's first class judicial magistrate Akhilesh Kumar Singh on Tuesday, narrated the gory tale. She was playing near her house on the fateful evening, and returned home only to find her mother burnt and writhing in pain. "I asked what happened, and mummy mumbled `your papa burnt me'," she said and added papa then slapped on her burnt. All this while, Ishita's three-year-old sister Gargi had been crying with there being none to look after her. Ishita recalled her mother was rushed to a burn hospital. Though she too accompanied her mother to the hospital, she was later taken to the house of Neeru aunty. Police told TOI Neeru is the wife of Manish's colleague. According to police, Ishita also told the magistrate that her grandmother (Shiboo's mother) Kiran Rathore later came here and took the two children to Kanpur where Shiboo's parents have settled. "She said she wants to live with her grandmother only," a police officer said. Click here to comment on this story.
