Two Judicial Officers appointed as Judges of Andhra High Court

Centre has passed a notification for appointment of Cheekati Manavendranath Roy and Matam Venkata Ramana as judges of Andhra Pradesh High Court. The notification states that the President was pleased to confirm the appointment of the aforementioned judicial officers as judges of Andhra Pradesh High Court in order of seniority.

The recommendation of their names for elevation was made by the Chief Justice of High Court for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in September, 2018.

The notification has more significance considering the recent statement by Law Ministry stating that it would not act as mere 'post office' that only forward collegium recommendations. The Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad recently said that the Law Ministry would have a role as a stakeholder in judicial appointments and they would give due respect to the system.
