D V Sadananda Gowda Urges Other Ministries to Start Uploading Their Data on the Web-Based Application- Legal Information Management & Briefing System (LIMBS), Developed by the his Ministry in Consultation with the Railway Ministry and the NIC

Union Law & Justice Minister Shri D.V.Sadananda Gowda have informed all his Cabinet colleagues that his ministry in consultation with the Ministry of Railways and National Informatics Centre (NIC) has developed a web-based application- Legal Information Management & Briefing System (LIMBS) on which Several Ministries/Departments have already begun the process of uploading data relating to them. Accordingly, the minister have requested them to instruct their ministry official to opt for it, in case it has not begun there. He has also offered requisite training and guidance and any other related assistance to the officials for uploading information and also for preparing the LIMBS website by the Department of Legal Affairs.

In a letter the minister has stated that as part of the e-Governance initiative, his ministry has started working on putting in place this online system of managing and monitoring all court cases in which Government of India is a party. This means that once fed, information relating to all court/tribunal cases being handled by the various Ministries/Departments and other organs of the Government of India will be available on a single web-based online application. Also, this application caters to a wide range of requirements for various departments and administrative authorities for effective monitoring of court matters. LIMBS is very user-friendly and capable of producing various sets of customized MIS reports which are required for effective monitoring. It also provides timely reminder alerts though SMS.

The minister further said since, advice on legal matters and conduct of litigation on behalf of Union of India before various courts is the subject matter of the Department of Legal Affairs, all pleadings filed before various courts and tribunals are also vetted by the designated officers of Department of Legal Affairs. Hence the need for developing an application for monitoring court cases has been drawing attention of the Central Government for quite some time.
