Nupur Sharma has set the country on fire. This is what two Supreme Court judges say. "The ghastly murder in Udaipur is the result of Nupur Sharma's statements". Again this is the statement of the judges. Do they condone the crime in Udaipur? "Nupur Sharma should apologize to the whole nation". Coming from the honorable judges, is this their verdict? The case is before several trial courts in the country. One cannot appeal against a Supreme Court judgment before a trial court. Is it that trial courts have nothing to do now? The pronouncement of Supreme Court judges are protected by the Contempt of Court Act. This enjoins a great responsibility on the judges. They cannot pronounce their opinions on anything and everything in the public domain, which is not brought for verdict. Here it was not taken to them for verdict. Only the administrative action of transferring cases all over the country to one place was requested. They can give their verdict only if and when the case was brought to them on appeal. Even then they can give verdict according to the law of the land. India is not a theocratic country unlike the Islamic countries which were offended by Nupur Sharma's statements.
