Family court and transfer of petition

If one family court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain a case, what does it usually do?

Will it return the petition to the petitioner and ask him/her to file it in the court competent to try it?

Or does a family court have the power to transfer the petition?

My understanding is that only a High Court or District Court has the power to transfer the petition.

Thank you in advance for the reply.
