Cross examination

Dear friends,

Please elaborate me on what is the length of cross-examination in number of questions by the opposite lawyer in a DV case in India.

Depends on the kinds of witnes and the value of the witness. There is no straitjacket formula, but sky is the limit for the cross examiner to put question, as long as it does not amount to misleading the court and even intervention of the court is not permissible, as long as the question of the cross examiner pertains to decipher the truth relevant to the facts of the case..

On 11.09.16 I got an opportunity to see cross examination of petitioner. The questions touched from love/arranged marriage to filing of any criminal cases and any maintenance and also proofs of source of income and properties of respondent/husband. The girl/petitioner cried in between to strengthen her case, it took 35 to 45 mins for entire cross. Printout immediately taken and signed by the petitioner.
