Can ghmc shut tenant shop for property tax default

dear sir,

I have leased a property under ghmc limits for which the property tax is unpaid. recently ghmc officials visited my place & started closing my business place saying that the property tax is defaulted. I want to know whether this is within their right, keeping in mind that I am not the owner of the building. should they not deal with the building owner in this regard?

property tax (or millage tax) is a levy on property that the owner is required to pay.

If the building owner is not paying the property Tax the occupier is to pay the tax and can have reimbursement from the landlord.  The Municipal authority has got the right to collect the tax from the occupier. OR the building owner can request the Municipal Authority to collect the property tax from the occupier by  giving occupier notice.
