Appeal on counter claim

Required help:

In a title Suit, decree is given in favor of Plaintiff and Counter Claim of defendant is dismissed. The defendant preferred appeal against the decree of suit but did not prefer appeal against his dismissal of his counter claim. 

Whether non preference of appeal against dismissal of his counter claim would affect his appeal against the decree of the suit.
