I would like to know if there is any clear provision regarding submission of hard copy of service tax return once it has been filed online and approved by the department.

In my view there is no such provision of submission of hard copy. However, since the infrastructure of the excise and customs department is still in the upgradation process, it is better to submit a copy with an acknowledgment. However, once you have filed electronically no one can challange you.
