My lawyer suggesting to send legal notice to my wife before filing contested divorce.What are benefits and adversities of this.Is it good idea?

This legal notice containing what we want and our intention about divorce.We want to know through letter whether they agree for mutual consent or not?Is it useful As i am in dilemma,that this letter provoke them for filing may cases.What you say. can i tell my lawyer to file divorce directly.
