Professional negligence

Are legal remedies available for a person who has suffered damages as a result of professional negligence on the part of a chartered accountant? Isn't it the responsibility of the ca to guide the client as he has no or little knowledge about the subject? And if the mistake is on the side of the ca who has wrongly done a mistake which can be proved, will the client be punishable for the mistake as in case of tax default? Please guide
