Minimum attendance required for conducting agm

1. Is it mandatory to attend society annual general meeting.
2. What is the minimum number of people required to conduct society AGM meeting.
3. If people said they will attend the meeting but didn't show up during the meeting and because of which minimum required attendance is not there. Then can this meeting be considered as per rule. And do others have to abide by decisions taken in that meeting by attendees.
4. Can members be monetarily fined for not attending the meeting. Is it by law? And if yes what should be the fine amount. Can it be anything.

In which State are you? If you are in Maharashtra the following are the reply. 1. No. 2. There will be a quorum mentioned in the byelaws of the Society. It will be a certain percentage of the membership or a fixed number, whichever will be less. 3. In the case of AGM it will be called by the Managing Committee. If the required number of members do not turn up the Committee can adjourn the meeting and hold it again at a later hour on the same date or on a later date. Such adjourned meetings can be conducted whether there is a quorum or not. If a meeting is requisitioned by members of the Society such meeting cannot proceed if there was no quorum. 4. There can be no punishment for not attending meetings. The amendment to Co-op Soc. Act in 2013 makes members 'inactive members if they did not attend 5 consecutive AGM's. But they will suffer no disabilities. The laws in other States and other types of Associations will also be similar.
