Lost plot registered documents found multiple registeries

Dear respected Lawyers of the Board, My father lost the original registered plot papers. Now when we requested and received the same duplicate copies from the registrar office found that some one imposted my father identity and sold the plot and there after another 4 parties exchanged hands on the plot in last 9 years. Now when we went to lawyer he suggested that nothing can be done now as we wake up too late and my father can't prove himself that he is the real owner of this plot since he used my uncle address while registering the deed and imposter also used the same address while selling the plot. Only proof we could find the photograph of imposter on copy of the duplicate deed. Police is also reluctant to register FIR due to elapse of long time. Any suggestions and help in the light of law much appreciated? Regards Alimir
