Hi, I have been living in a house as a tenant in Bangalore from 2nd October 2010. I paid token advance of Rs. 10,000 out of the total advance of Rs.45,000. The rent was Rs.4,500+100 water bill. After 11 months, i.e., from the 12th month (September 2011) the rent was increased by 5% as per the agreement. Hence, from August 2012 again there will be an increase of 5% with which I have no problem. However, in the morning, today, the owner came to me and said that I have to pay Rs.6,000 from July 2012 because the new tenant who have moved to the house above my house are paying Rs.6,000. Is it fair to raise the amount all of a sudden? Can they ask to pay the amount or leave the house? Because the owner told me to leave the house if I can;t pay. Should I find a different house and serve a month's notice period and pay the old rent (Rs.4,725+125 (water))?

Appreciate your kind help.
