R.R. KRISHNAA (Expert) 16 January 2010
Lessor is noway liable for any scam/litigations involved by the lessee.
B K Raghavendra Rao (Expert) 16 January 2010

Lessor is liable for the scam/litigation involved by the lease if there is no protective clause in the lease agreement to the effect that no activity prohibited by any law in force is carried out in the premises and no goods, articles, objects prohibited to be stored under any law is stored in the premises. If any licence or agreement is to be obtained from the government for either carrying out commercial activity or for storing certain items like petrol, diesel, explosives etc., the same should be mentioned as a covenant in the agreement. If not, the lessor is likely to be in trouble legally.
kranthi kiran (Expert) 17 January 2010
as stated by learned seniors, the lessor is not responsible for the scams or litigations. But if the premises let, is used by the lessee for conduct of business of nature of any prohibited activity, then the lessor may face problems.
