PLEADINGS - Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer. The claim, answer, counterclaim, and/or third-party claim filed in an action.

PLAINTIFF - The person who initiates a lawsuit. The person who initiates a lawsuit by filing a complaint is called the plaintiff. When the document that initiates a lawsuit is called a petition or a plaint rather than a complaint, the initiating person is usually referred to as the petitioner rather than the plaintiff.

Written statement: The respondent files his version of the events either accepting or refuting the allegations made by the plaintiff, such statement has to be filed before the court within the time given, such statement is termed as a written statement.
