Personal Liberty

Sir/ Madam,

I just want to know if PERSONAL LIBERTY includes having hairstyle of our own.

Can the college authorities dictate what hairstyle we are supposed to maintain.

What does Article 21 of Indian Constitution mean exactly.

Article 21 : Protection of life and personal liberty: No person shall be deprived of his life and personal liberty except according to procedure established by law.
This is related to the protection of life and liberty and defines the rights of person to protect his life, but it does not defines the personal liberty regarding hair style. Off course you can have your own hairstyle, but college can dictate the students to maintain the hairstyle to maintain the decency of the college

When we are entering in to a educational institution or for that matter any other institution of repute it is onerous for us to conduct our behaviour in a decent manner befitting to the said place of learning or activity . Taking shelter of " Pesonal liberty" , one can not break the decorum of a institution .Reg. hair style , Indian law allows Sikhs to to keep long hair and wear turban and likewise allows Mohamedans to keep long beard which is professed as per individual religious leanings.

It is a question of Code of Conduct prescribed by the institution you join, which you have to follow to maintain discipline and uniformity within the organization/institution. Personal liberty represents your personal freedom and independence from any type of slavery, but does not allow you to resort to misconduct.
