Rs 7.25-cr I-T evasion

Commissioner of Income Tax-I (CIT-I) on Friday claimed to have detected tax evasion worth around Rs 7.25 crore as a result of surveys carried out on 11 premises of three city entrepreneurs on Thursday.

A major chunk of tax evasion has been reported from Scott Edil group, which has accounted for evasion worth Rs five crore. ‘This evasion was made in form of excessive deductions in the garb of tax-free zones. Besides, there were unaccounted investments in buildings,’ GS Randhawa, the CIT-I, said.

Officials said second major detection was made in BNAL Pre fabs, manufacturers of fabricated structures provided to defence and paramilitary forces. Evasion amounting to Rs 80 lakh was detected therein.

‘Assessees have been told to pay tax liabilities for the default amount,’ Raghvendra Yadav, additional commissioner of income tax (additional CIT) said.
