The Supreme Court will hear today the petition filed by former Union Law Minister Ram Jeth Malani and others seeking directions to the Union Government to take steps to bring back about Rs 70 lakh crore illegally stashed away in foreign bank by top politicians, bureaucrats and others.
The Centre has not yet filed fresh affidavit as directed by the Supreme Court giving better details of the black money lying in foreign banks including that in Switzerland.
The petitioner also includes former Punjab DGP K P S Gill and former Secretary General of Lok Sabha Subhash Kashyap.
The petitioner have alleged that during the last five years the Government has done little to bring back the black money stashed away by Indians in the Swiss bank through the Hawala Channel to evade income tax.
The Government has demanded Rs 40,000 crore as income tax from one Hussain Ali for stashing away black money running into several lakh crore in the Swiss Bank.
The Union Government had not identified any account holder in its earlier affidavit which was found unsatisfactory by the apex court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam will hear the matter tomorrow and the Government is likely to seek more time for filing the affidavit.
The Government has, however, claimed that all possible efforts were being made to bring back the black money.
