Earlier, on June 22 when the bail petition came up for hearing, the judge asked the leaders of the MDMK, PUCL and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam(PDK) leaders to file an affidavit stating their views on the attack on army trucks, by their party cadres.

As per this direction, MDMK Party Head Quarters Secretary Tamil Maravan and PUCL General Secretary Balamurugan submitted that their party had not approved any kind of violence.

Recording the affidavits, the judge granted bail to Jayaprakash and 11 others, who were arrested by the Coimbatore police in connection with attack on army tucks which were carrying defence personnel and arms in May last.

The Government Pleader(GP) Durairaj opposed bail to the accused.

The GP submitted that the accused had committed a severe offence.
