4/2/2009 JGU Vice Chancellor Prof. C. Raj Kumar announced the launch of two law scholarships available to students who join Jindal Global Law School(JGLS) in academic year 2009-10. The new merit-based scholarships are the O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarships and the Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarships. The LSATIndia test is the admission test for JGLS, which will enroll its first students in September 2009. O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship of Rs. 1 lakh each will be offered to the top five LSATIndia test scorers who enroll in the three-year LL.B. programme and the top five who enroll in the five-year B.A., LL.B. programme. The scholarships are named in honor of the late Mr. O.P. Jindal, Founder of the O.P. Jindal Group and the father of the Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, Mr. Naveen Jindal. JGLS will select two Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholars each year from among the entering students enrolling at JGLS on the basis of academic achievements, extra- curricular achievements, an essay, and leadership potential. Chancellor Mr. Naveen Jindal, after whom the scholarship is named, stated the goals of the scholarship as follows, Through the Young Global Scholars program, JGLS can provide special recognition and support to people who have a global vision to be passionately committed leaders and to make an impact on the society and world at large. Vice Chancellor Prof. C. Raj Kumar elaborated, The aim of the scholarships is to nurture, encourage and support young global leaders. The JGLS Independent Selection Committee will choose persons whom they consider likely to become outstandingly good citizens, with the desire to serve and with the energy to fulfil ambitions in whatever area they may eventually make their careers. One student from the three-year LL.B. degree programme and another student from the five-year B.A., LL.B. degree programme will be awarded this scholarship on the basis of an independent selection process. A one-time award of Rs. 5 lakhs will be given to each student. In addition to the two scholarships announced by JGLS, some fee concessions for students who are domicile of Haryana will also be available for students, who enroll in September, 2009.
