Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) After a gap of nearly three weeks, the Madras High Court and other courts of Tamil Nadu have started functioning, even as a section of lawyers continued their boycott of courts, demanding action against police officials, responsible for lathicharge on lawyers on February 19. Besides the High Court, City civil court, Mahila Court and Family Courts inside the High Court complex and other Magistrate Courts in the city started functioning as Government advocates and DMK lawyers turned up to resume work. The DMK lawyers as decided by the party's legal wing last evening, ended their boycott of courts and returned to work this morning. The legal wing had appealed to them to resume work, following the request made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Chief Justice H L Gokhale. However, lawyers of various associations, including the Madras High Court Advocates Association, under the banner of Joint Action Council, continued their boycott of courts. After obtaining police permission, these lawyers held a demonstration in front of the Memorial Hall, demanding action against police officials, responsible for the lathicharge against lawyers, when they clashed with the police on February 19, inside the High Court complex.
