UP govt to move SC against HC order on police recruits Lucknow | Wednesday, Mar 4 2009 IST The Uttar Pradesh government is likely to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court to challenge the order of Allahbad High Court with regards to reinstatement of over 20,000 police recruits dismissed by the Mayawati government. Highly placed sources in the government told UNI this evening that the state government plans to move the Apex court to challenge the decision of the division bench of the Allahabad High Court directing it to reinstate over 20,000 dismissed policemen. The Allahabad High Court today rejected the special appeal of the state government in the police recruitment scam and ordered to maintain the earlier order passed by the single Judge bench directing reinstatement of over 20,000 policemen. A two-Judge bench comprising Justices Janardan Sahay and Rakesh Sharma passed the order, while hearing the special appeal of UP government challenging the earlier order of the court. The single Judge bench of Justice D P Singh had on December 8, 2008, passed an order to reinstate about 20,000 policemen, who had been recruited during the previous regime of Mulayam Singh Yadav. The Mayawati government had conducted a probe into the recruitment and terminated all the recruits on the basis of the findings. This move of the Mayawati government was challenged in the Allahabad High Court, which decided the matter against the state on December 8, 2008. The state government had filed the special appeal against this order. Meawnhile, Secretary (Home) Kumar Kamlesh told reporters in routine press briefing that the state government would take final decision about its next move after receiving the copy of the judgement. He also read out a release, which said one of the two Judges Janardan Sahai had said that the state government was free to distinguish between 'fair' and 'unfair' recruits. The termination of the large number of cops by the Mayawati government had caused huge resentment among the policemen. -- (UNI) -- 04DR73.xml
