• A PIL was filed in the Supreme court by Advocate Narender Kumar Verma and drafted by advocate CR Jaya Sukin which highlighted the plight faced by trans people.

FURTHER DETAILS 

• It is mentioned in the PILthat the State Government has made no initiative and shows no intention to protect the basic rights of transgender people even after the passing of the Trans Act. 

• In the PIL it was askedif the Supreme Court could direct for the formation of a Transgender Welfare Board for addressing the issues faced by Trans people and for the appointment of a Standing Committee comprising of Station House Officers, Human Rights activists and social activist.

COURT ORDERS  

•Thus the bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice S.A Bobde issued a notice for the formation of the Transgender Welfare Committee to address the social welfare issues faced by them.

• Not only this the court in its notice also directed toappoint a Standing Committee to investigate the reports of abuse faced by trans people at the hands of police. 

• The bench directed the counsel appearing for the petitioner to bring forward the details relating to the legislation which may beessentialto govern the Transgender Welfare Board.
