GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • In a recent notification from Bar Council of India, in All-India Bar Examination there won’t be any books, notes or study material found in the Examination Hall.
  • However, individuals are allowed to carry Bare Acts without any notes whatsoever.
  • The notification stated as follows “This is to notify that All India Bar Examination-XVI (AIBE-XVI) onwards, no books, notes, or study material will be allowed in the Examination Hall. Candidates can carry bare acts without notes”

WHAT IS AIBE?

  • This is an examination held under the ambit of Bar Council of India to test the abilities and critical thinking skills of a law graduate.
  • It is an open book exam, to analyze the basic understanding of law as a subject.
  • This exam is held twice a year and it is mandatory for all the law graduates to pass this exam in order to practice law as an advocate

WHY SUCH BARRING OF NOTES?

  • Though the reason of such a sudden notice is not very clear but experts suspect some important aspects which may have led to such a notification.
  • Some opinions are referring to increasing the level of difficulty, getting adapted to the one-click generation and presenting a higher level of understanding in the law background.
