A writ petition filed by Amit Sahni asking for directions to the central government to introduce mandatory OTP for transactions made on international websites was rejected by the Delhi High Court.

The petition suggested urgent need of mandating requirements of OTP for transactions made on international websites as it would reduce the vulnerability of the customer of being cheated or stolen. He also added that an additional security layer like OPT should be mandatory while charged for subscription fees by any service provider.

The opposition argued that RBI’s jurisdiction is restricted to the India only and hence it cannot be forced on Foreign Service providers. The opposition also suggested that other mechanisms are followed like mobile notification or SMS alerts to enhance and ensure security.

Delhi High Court dismissed the petition and observed in its order that present security infrastructure is sufficient and any kind of security breach can be dealt individually.
