The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a petition seeking a direction to the Centre to implement its judgement on 27 per cent quota for OBCs in central educational institutions. "We cannot entertain a petition for implementation of our judgement," a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said, while dismissing the PIL. The PIL filed by a Delhi-based doctor M M Mittal had sought a direction for the Ministry of Human Resource and Ministry of Home Affairs to implement in "real perspective and a truthful manner" the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act, 2006 which was upheld by the five-judge Constitution Bench on 10th April. The PIL submitted that the Centre should only go ahead with the process of reservation in various educational institutions after a list of OBCs was finalised as was directed by the court in its judgement. The petitioner also contended that the judgement had clearly stated that a cut-off mark should be fixed, which should be lower than general category, for admission.
