BHOPAL: The Income Tax authorities have issued notices to four ministers of Madhya Pradesh cabinet for not filing proper returns for years and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 each on them. The notices were issued against four ministers - Kusum Mehdele, Kamal Patel, Ramakant Tiwari and Karan Singh Verma - for not filing returns afresh within a stipulated timeframe of one month, IT sources said here on Thursday. The notices were issued under Section 148 of Income Tax Act, they said and added that a penalty of Rs 5,000 each was also imposed on them. Mehdele Minister for Women and Child Development denied having received any such notice and claimed that she had filed the returns by the stipulated deadline, the sources close to the minister said. It can be proved by the fact that she borrowed a loan of Rs 12.50 lakh from banks on the basis of the returns filed for a house in the MP/MLAs Housing Scheme, they said. Kamal Patel, Minister for Revenue also denied having received any such notice from the IT department and said that if any such notice will be served to him he would abide by it. The other two ministes Ramakant Tiwari and Karan Singh Verma could not be contacted as they were not available.
