Government decides to amend EFL act

 Kerala government decided to amend the Ecologically Fragile Land (Vesting and Management) Act to give protection to small and medium farmers in areas near forests. 

The Cabinet decided to ask Governor to promulgate an ordinance to exempt five acres of land from the purview of the provisions of the act, chief minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here after a cabinet meeting. 

A decision on the matter was taken after considering a large number of complaints received from small and medium farmers that they were facing lot of problems due to some provisions of the act, Achuthanandan said. 

The Cabinet also decided to handover to Fisheries Department 9.55 acres of land at Kadugallore Village in Ernakulam district for setting up an Aqua Technological Park, he said. 

It was also decided to entrust Kerala Public Service Commission task of appointing officers in State Pollution Control Board.
