The government  announced a panel of experts to review the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and give a report in three months, suggesting changes to effectively meet requirements of the road transport sector in the current scenario.

The ten-member committee headed by Mr S Sunder, a former secretary of the Transport Ministry, has been tasked with reviewing the existing Act comprehensively and suggest best practices suitable for India by studying similar Acts in leading Asian countries like China and Japan, said the Ministry.
