The Nature of Supreme Faith - HAPPY NEW YEAR ! (Mar 16, 2010

16th March 2010, Tuesday, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada,  Mangalvar

Vikram Samvat 2067, Sri Krishna Samvaat 5236

Happy New Year !

Question:   What is nature (swaroop, form) of highest, supreme "shraddha"  (faith, reverential belief,  implicit confidence)?

Swamiji:  The nature of highest, supreme shraddha (utmost faith) is that whoever you have faith in, if they say to you that - Everything is Bhagavan (God), then from that point onwards, only God is seen everywhere.  Visibly, evidentially, before the eyes, face-to-face "shaakshaat" Paramatma (God) is seen.  A building is made of cement, stone, bricks, but the one who you have faith (shraddha) in, and that faith "shraddha" is supreme, if he says to you that this building is made of gold, then thereafter it is seen as gold - clear and visibly.  There is not a speck of doubt, suspicion, mistrust that arises - not one bit.  This is supreme "shraddha" (faith).   For one who has supreme faith, there remains nothing at all to be done.  It is written in the scripttures, that as the saints-great souls say, that very same thing they begin to perceive, as those impressions become implanted in their consciousness "anubhav"  This is supreme "shraddha"  (implicit faith/belief) .

This supreme faith comes about when one gives up reliance on the world.  When one does not rely on the perishables, then genuine faith will manifest.  Perishable should not be trusted, depended on, or relied on if you desire supreme faith!  If you trust, depend on, rely on, have faith in perishable, temporary things, then how can supreme faith manifest?   That which you already know to be true, that which you already know with certainty to be destructible, perishable, unreal, henceforth, do not consider those unreal things to be real .  That is all there is to it.  I read these words and they appeared extra-ordinary - THAT WHICH YOU KNOW TO BE PERISHABLE (TEMPORARY), RENOUNCE IT FROM WITHIN.   That is all there is to it.  That which you know to be unreal, renounce it.

Now, regarding knowledge of that which is unreal, one point has come to my mind, so have mercy and please pay attention to this point.  This world is real or is it unreal or is it beyond the real - unreal - such is the descripttion.  There are many types of differences, however in this the main essence is one and that is that our relationship with the world is unreal (temporary).  I found this to be an extra-ordinary point, which I am sharing with you.  There are many differences of opinions regarding the world and how it is?  God and how He is?  Embodied Soul (Jeev) and how it is?   What it is? etc.  Many difference, and many huge volumes of books written on it with much information and knowledge.  I have seen them, read them, heard them, understood them, and the main essence of all of them is that the relationship that we have with the world is unreal (asat, temporary).  If you courageously accept this point, then it is an extremely valuable thing!  If you have any doubts whatsoever, you can ask!  If there are no doubts and you are at ease with what you have heard, then accept this once and for all.

Ram Ram

Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous new year.

The importance :
1. Major Indian festivals eg. Holi, Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtmi are all celebrated according to the Vikrami calendar.
2. Dates for major auspicious functions are selected according to the Vikrami calendar.
3. It is the time when the harvest is ready and the new grains reach the markets.

Few of the important events on this date - Chaitra Shukla Pratipada - the first day of the new year :
1. Brahmaji started the creation of the universe.
2. The crowning ceremony of Lord Rama.
3. Founding of the Arya Samaj by Swami Dayanand Saraswati.

There are many religious, cultural and historic events which have a connection with this date. The importance of this date is great. It is very unfortunate that we have forgotten the significance of this date as also of the Indian dates and calendar. This day is celebrated in parts of the country but lacks the importance that it deserves.

Let us all celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and make an attempt to give back the lost and forgotten glory to this date. Let us try and revive the Indian calendar to whatever extent we can. Wish all your relatives, friends, loved ones a very happy new year.

Ram Ram
