17 year girl nd 19 yr boy can marry???

gud evening experts

                        a 17 yr girl and 19 yr boy can marry ???actully girl is living wid her step parents.parents r so rude towards the girl. so girl dnt want to live with her step parents.she wants to marry wid her 19 yr friend.but the step father is agiast the marriage and want her maariage wid another.now parents r compelling the girl to marry wid a boy(selected  by  step parents).now what remedy is avialble to the girl. girl want to maary wid her friend 19 yr boy.now the situation is that  to whom the girl want to marry is also 19 yr(not completed 21 yr age).so now waht 17 yr girl and 19 yr boy can do???step parents r threating the girl from one year.actully lot of property is on girl's name.what protection is avlable to girl???girl dnt want to live wid her step parents even a single mintue....................................[state punjab]

Yes, they can, provided they are ready to face the penalty, which is negligible.

Legally they cannot not marry, as per law girl's age should 18 and boy's age should be 21 yaers.

No .. they can not legally marry now ...no one can force her into marriage till she is 18 .. if anyone forces her they can be prosecuted ..

but parents harrasing the girl regularly.she is not ready to live wid her step parents.where she can aply for remedy???

well mohit she can complain under the domestic violence act as even parents cannot force a girl to marry against her choice

also see section 6 of the protection of women from domestic violence act,2005 as regarding demand of shelter home by the agreived person.

can not marry.  Because they are not attained majority.


She can approach court or police against her step parents.

Section 5 (iii) of the HMA says that necessary condition for a marriage is that the bridegroom should be 21 and the bride should be 18. If marriage occurs in contravention of this condition mentioned above the marriage will not be void or voidable and the only consequences is punishment as per section 18 of the HMA, which may extend to 2 years or with fine or both, which may extend to Rs. 1 Lakh. 


Since legally the girl is minor she should take some help from the administration.
