A Lease deed for more than a year requires compulsory registration under section 17 of the Registration Act. On a reading of section 17(1)(b), I feel Leave and Licence Agreement falls under this section particularly when the licence fee is more than Rupees100. However, after a lot of research from various judgements and legal opinions, I find that the prevalent practice is that, the Leave and Licence Agreement is not compulsorily registerable.
