Religious hangings in govt. offices

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens.

Secularism is the basic structure of the Indian constitution. The Government respects all religions. It does not uplift or degrade any particular religion.

Then, why we have religious wall hangings, religious ceremonies in government offices.

In India religion has encroached a big area of public land. Religious structures like temples, churches , mosques or gurudwaras etc.  have been built not only on public parks and other open public land, but even in the congested streets and on roads causing serious traffic problems.

The offices of the government departments are no exception to this problem.

Precious lands of government offices have been encroached and illegal religious structures like temples, churches , mosques or gurudwaras etc.  have been built on the encroached  land …….  the land which was  purchased  out of  tax payers’ money for office use only. Thus part of the precious land of government offices is being used for religious activities.

In most of the cases these religious structures have been built by the officers/officials of the department themselves while in few cases religious structures have been built by the outsiders also.

When the officers/officials of government themselves are encroaching office lands for construction of religious structures in office premises, then there should be no surprise when the general public encroach  land on roads ,streets ,parks etc. ?

Religious functions/rituals/ceremonies are also being organized in these religious places, situated in the office premises, in which the officers/officials of the departments proudly participate. It is very unfortunate that secular atmosphere of the government offices is being destroyed by constructing religious structures and organizing religious functions/rituals/ceremonies in office premises.

We have unity in diversity, but such kind of activities destroying our unity and identity.

Kindly give me your legal expert opinion on this matter.

Thank you and best regards,

Mohd. Sharfuddin Anwar...

"Showing respect to the place of work and the objects of work will in no way offend the feelings of others or affect secularism. Ayudha Puja is referable to prayer, reverence or respect given to objects through which an individual performs his profession or occupation. Ayudha Puja in its real terms transcends all religio"Irrespectvie of religion, Ayudha Puja is a reverence shown by cobblers, weavers, farmers, autorickshaw drivers, rickshaw-pullers, carpenters, shopkeepers, chartered accountants, advocates, doctors etc., to objects which they use to earn their livelihood,"Ayudha Puja and Saraswathi Puja fall on holidays and it could not be concluded that it was the state which performed these pujas at office. "In government offices, if an individual shows respect and reverence to the materials, books, files or records which are being handled by the individual, it will be referable to his individual freedom and there is nothing to show that it affects the secular nature of the state." An individual's right to freedom of conscience is permitted in Article 25 of the Constitution.

I agree with the law student Mr. M S Anwar's views on the subject, but see the law maker is the law breaker, what to do, if you ask for it, you will be branded as a religious fanatic or if I question that, I will be branded as an atheist, lets see.

Dear Sir,

By these religious color to the government offices, we are dividing the people of India by creating enmity and hatred in their hearts and this will lead to the threat to the secularism which is basic structure of our constitution.

Even in many non secular and religious countries, all the government offices are away from any kind of religious posters, photos or any kind of wall hangings.

Is it possible that, can we file a PIL?

I appreciate your interest in the welfare of the secularism of our country and its future,   It is a novel idea, a PIL will be a whistle blower too, go ahead, I fully support your idea.  I should thank your idea of national interest, please accept my compliments.  All the best for a success in your idea.
