In many rural areas the police inspectors usually (but not necessarily) have jurisdiction over a number of police stations (usually under the police Sub Inspector). Since the Inspector is in charge of a police circle (consisting of one or more police stations) she/he can also be referred as the circle inspector. Moreover, in a number of cities, the Inspectors are the Station House Officer or SHO at each police station.
