Rti 1st appeal

HI, I had recently filed a RTI with the traffic police dept asking for details about certain eniquiry and complaints recived against a certain constable. but the application was rejected without giving proprer details and was stataed that these details were not available with them. i just wanted to know is it the duty of the concerned officer to get the details and pass it or should they reject it. also please guide me in filling the first appeal.

If the information sought is within the jurisdictional power of the department in which the RTI is being sought, they need to gather information and provide to the applicant.

As far as appeal is concerned, the same can be preferred within 30 days of receipt of communication to Appellate Information Officer of the same department.
