Cash receipt through email

I had received Rs 1,60,000 in cash and not cheque from a local person who runs chits, he made me sign a promissory note and took a cheque for Rs 3 lakhs, I had only signed on the cheque and wrote an amount of Rs 300000 and had not written any other thing on the cheque.

Later after few days, i repaid him the said Rs 1,60,000 with interest @3% in cash, and to that extent on insisting him to return my promissory note and cheque, he sent me a cash receipt (typed in MS word) on his letter head through mail stating that he received the said amount., but since there is no signature on the cash receipt sent through mail, is it valid??

After few months we had a split in a firm and he in order to take revenge sent me a notice asking me to pay rs 3 laks plus interest, what should i do?? pls advice
