Unintentionally killed someone when drunk.

This is really urgent. Please help me out. Just mention the sections and a brief explanation.

A person is drunk and spendttime physically with his girl friend for a couple of hurs(say). After sometime, they run into arguments and  he hits her with wooden block on head and leave the place in anger NOT THINKING IT WOULD CAUSE HER DEATH. The next day morning, she was found death and the guy was caught.

If the person never had an intension to kill, how can be defend him now? Because it is more painful for him to be the accused though he loved her and it was a blunnder mistake of hitting her.
