Registration post marrage

Hi, Pls help me to clarify my below concern. In case the boy & the girl are from diffrent state & from diffrent religion but want to get married & is getting married in some other state but not able to get the registration done as there is no address proof, then can they come back to the boy / girl actual / native place & get the registration done ?? thnaks n Regards,
