National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Girija Vyas on Friday urged the Maharashtra government to try the case of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja - accused of raping his teenaged domestic help - in a fast track court.

Speaking to mediapersons shortly after her arrival on Friday afternoon, Vyas said this was necessary in the interest of quick justice to both parties in the case.

"Moreover, in such cases, prolonged trial could result in the victim and witnesses being influenced or pressurised," Vyas pointed out.

She said if quick justice can be rendered through a fast track court, it is good for the victim and also for the accused - if he is proved innocent.

The NCW chairperson has come to Mumbai to meet the victim who alleges she was raped by Shiney and lodged a complaint against him last on Sunday. Vyas also expressed her willingness to meet Shiney's wife Anupam.

The victim's parents, who live in Kokbaan village in neighbouring Raigad district, also arrived in the city on Friday morning to meet the NCW chief.

Shiney was arrested on Sunday and sent to police custody for three days. Later, he was sent to judicial custody till July 2 and is now lodged in the Arthur Road Jail in south Mumbai.

He has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sec 376 (rape), Sec 346 (wrongful restraint) and Sec 506 (threat to kill) among others.

Shiney has been seen in movies like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Gangster, Karam, Woh Lamhe, Fanaa, Hijack, Life In A Metro and Bhool Bhulaiyya among others.

He has bagged over half a dozen prestigious awards for several of his movies in the past six years of his acting career.

2.umbai, Mar 30: Once again film actor Shiney Ahuja hit the headlines of news and this time as the culprit in the rape case. Many twists have occurred in the rape case involving Ahuja and his home maid. But this time, a Mumbai session court convicted him guilty. Shiney got 7 years of imprisonment.

Shiney Ahuja was arrested on Jun 14, 2009 after their 20-year-old maid accused the actor of forcing himself on her and threatening her against speaking out about the incident.

He had to spend about three months in prison before getting a bail on Oct 1, 2009. Then the actor reportedly broke down after the medical reports of the victim confirmed that she was s*xually assaulted.

Sources quoted Ahuja as saying, "The maid resisted but I forced her into it. I told her that she should stay mum. I was confident that she would not tell anyone of the incident and I was ready to give her whatever she wanted to make sure that she would keep quite. I have made a grave mistake."

However, surprisingly, a year after the domestic help accused Shiney of raping her and threatening her against speaking out, the 'victim' told the court that her charges were false and that she only slapped the accusations against the star on direction of a woman, who got her the job at the Ahujas.

Now, the latest move of the court is another twist in the rape case which will definitely mar the career of the Bollywood actor.

SUSHIL DAVID (SR. ADMIN MANAGER)     06 April 2011

The Session Court at Sewri in Mumbai on Wednesday sentenced Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja to a minimum of seven years imprisonment for raping his domestic help.

While delivering the verdict, Judge PM Chouhan has not accepted the maid’s evidence in the court that she was not raped as the judge felt that she had given false evidence.

Shiney broke down in the court after the pronouncement of the verdict and he was taken to jail directly from court. Clad in pink shirt and jeans, the 38-year-old Shiney was accompanied by his wife Anupam Ahuja in the court when the judgement was delivered. An unfazed Anupam later told reporters that her husband was innocent.

Media-persons were not allowed inside the court during the pronouncement of the verdict as the proceedings were in-camera just like during trial time.

In September last year, the maid had backtracked from her allegations that Shiney had raped her at his residence in Mumbai and said the incident had never occurred. The 20-year-old girl told the court that she had filed the complaint against the actor at the behest of the woman who had secured her the job of a maid in Shiney’s residence.

Earlier, in June 2009, the girl had lodged a police complaint alleging that she was raped by the actor at his residence. Shiney was arrested on June 14 and released on bail three months later.

Additional Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta, who led the probe, said the convincing evidence police collected had proved the role of the actor in the crime despite the victim turning hostile. The police had gathered the DNA report and the medical report, which confirmed the rape by Shiney. The investigating officials also recorded the statements of 12 witnesses and gathered other documentary evidence.
