Alias name in the passport

Hi,

My existing passport is due to expire and I am applying for new passport. While filling up the online form, I saw a place where alias name can be entered. I was wondering how this field will be displayed in the passport? Will it require additional proofs to be provided?

My existing passport has my name as "PRASANNA" and all my school documents have the same name - i had to follow this practice, since I entered my name without surname for my 10th exam. In the office and lot of other places, I have my surname added ie "PRASANNA HEBBAR" so that I could be uniquely identified. I am wondering if I can leverage the alias field in the passport and add "PRASANNA HEBBAR". Will this cause any issues? What additional documents do I need to submit?

If any of you can answer that, I thank you very much in advance.

Regards,
Prasanna
